The passing of Melissa Greer was and still is difficult for us here at WBTV. Melissa was so brave throughout the whole process. She really felt a calling to share her story about cancer and faith. People felt really connected to her.
The support for Melissa, her family, and all of us has been amazing.
So many of you have asked about Melissa's family, how they're doing, especially Connor and Roger and her parents. We all learned over these past few months, just how strong Melissa was. And so is her family.

May it comfort the family to know that viewers still think of Melissa and how her brave story touched our lives. I was curious to know how the family was doing a year later as I still think of them in their loss. May God continue to bless and comfort.
It's odd that seven years almost to the day, I thought about Melissa and her tragedy. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I did know Eric Thomas, one of her colleagues at WBTV. I was about to begin my quest for the new Meteorology degree that they began offering at UNC Charlotte. Eric became like a mentor to me during that quest. I was happy to share the accomplishment of earning my BS in Meteorology with him when I visited the WBTV studio in 2009.
Cancer has affected my life also. I was only 14 years old when I lost my Mom to it in 1981. Mom was only in her mid 40's. Melissa was only 27, which makes her untimely death seem that much more poignant and unfair. It's always heartbreaking for a loved one to be taken from us that early in life, but I have to remind myself that I'll never know all the answers to why certain things happen the way they do.
To those who have had to see a loved go through this kind of ordeal, first let me say God Bless you. May you eventually find comfort and some sense of peace as you work through the acceptance phase of your loss.
